Inspiring Creativity and Circuit Design at Riga Technical University
Workshop on September 27th at Riga Technical University brought together an inspiring mix of innovation and personal storytelling, featuring two prominent figures in the field of electronics and music technology. The event, organized by Artes Liberales in collaboration with Erica Synths, provided a platform for sharing expertise and introducing participants to new tools for electronics learning and experimentation.

Ģirts Ozoliņš, the founder of Erica Synths and a board member of LETERA, shared his remarkable journey from being a physics teacher to becoming the leader of one of the world’s most renowned electronic music instrument manufacturers. His story showed the power of combining passion for music and technology with entrepreneurial spirit, demonstrating how hobbies can evolve into thriving global businesses.

The workshop featured Moritz Klein, a notable electronics designer and educator, who captivated the audience with his transition from studying cultural sciences at Humboldt University to creating DIY electronics projects. Klein’s insights underscored the interdisciplinary nature of electronics and its accessibility to individuals from various backgrounds.

At the core of the workshop was the introduction of the MKI x ES Labor unit, a collaborative project between Erica Synths and Dr. Shalom D. Ruben, a teaching professor for engineering at the University of Colorado. Designed as a versatile electronics learning tool, the Labor unit serves as both a fully-featured circuit design playground and an educational platform.

Participants explored the extensive features of the Labor unit, including built-in oscillator, envelope generator, and more. The unit enables users to experiment with creating filters, oscillators, sequencers, and other electronic circuits while providing a safe and intuitive environment for beginners and experienced engineers alike. Attendees also learned about the EDU DIY Labor kits, which include essential components to start building circuits immediately, reinforcing the practical aspects of the workshop.

This event highlighted the commitment of Artes Liberales and Erica Synths to fostering innovation and accessibility in electronics design, providing attendees with both inspiration and the tools to start on their own creative journeys.
